About the Riverside
Women's Association (RWA)
The Riverside
Women’s Association is a organization of and for women. Our mission
and focus speak to our determination to provide social and
intellectual outlets for our membership while giving back to our
communities, but first and foremost, we are here for each other, to
empower each other. Besides the pride you
will feel giving back to your community through volunteering or
fundraising, you will make real, true friends here. There
will be times when you feel you have no more energy to give; come
and sit. There will be times when you feel eager to do; come and
lead. We are a community for each other before we are a force in
the communities in which we live.
RWA was founded in 1994 and is open to all women age 21 and over.
We meet the first Monday of the month (the second in September),
September through May for a social half hour with wine and munchies
followed by a business meeting. Our meetings give members a
chance to hear about the ongoing opportunities to make a difference
in our community and about upcoming social events and
presentations.
Social events include trips to the Pumpkin Farm and Breakfast with
Santa where our little ones are welcomed. Spouses, friends and
guests are happy to be invited to our Oktoberfest and Spring Wine
Tasting.
Since 2005, our annual fundraiser, the Snow Ball, a black-tie
optional dinner dance with silent auction, has raised over $50,000!
Proceeds from the Snow Ball have enabled RWA to award two or three
$2,500 scholarships annually to local women who are beginning or
continuing their education. We also contribute money annually to
our four core charities, the Oakmont Carnegie Library, the Oakmont
and Verona Volunteer Fire Departments and the Riverview Community
Action Corporation, as well as a few additional charities voted on
by our membership.
We
hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to meet new people,
work and laugh among friends and give back!
