Service
and Charitable Endeavors
RWA offers
members the opportunity to give back to our local community
through various through service projects and charitable
contributions.
In
October, we organize and sponsor the annual Oakmont
Halloween Parade and Poster Painting Contest.
We also sponsored the first community Gingerbread
House Contest being held at the Oakmont Carnegie Library
and showcased on Oakmont's Light Up Night.
Our
major fundraiser, the black-tie optional Snow Ball, is
held every February. This event has raised over
$60,000 since its inception in 2005. Proceeds from
the Ball enable us to award 2-3 scholarships to
local women furthering their education as well as to
support our four core charities.
In
the spring, RWA is the sole provider of vision screening
services for the area pre-schools. Interested
members receive training from Pittsburgh Vision Services
on how to identify early childhood vision problems.
Individual members often choose to volunteer directly
with other local service organizations including Meals
on Wheels and the American Cancer Society's Relay for
Life.
RWA
Scholarship
Every year, RWA awards scholarships
to local women seeking to further their education.
The recipient must be a female living in the Twin
Boros or a female sponsored by an active RWA member
continuing or desiring to continue her post-secondary education. The
award is based on overall potential including academic
performance, school activities, volunteerism, work
history, and financial need. Applications are
accepted from both traditional and non-traditional
students.
Please check back for application dates for 2011
scholarships.
